Dr. med. Andreas B. Schweikert is a specialist in neurology and somnology, certified by the Swiss Medical Association. He specializes in the treatment of stroke, diseases of the central nervous system and sleep disorders, as well as general neurology.
Dr. Schweikert studied medicine in Erlangen and Munich, with stays abroad in Paris, Boston, New York, and Switzerland. During his residency at the Technical University of Munich, he acquired extensive knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders, including neurovascular ultrasound, EEG, and electromyography, as well as conducting research in neuroimmunology. After his appointment as a senior physician at the Kantonsspital Aarau in 2016, he worked there for 6 years as a senior physician with a focus on stroke and acute neurology, actively contributing to the training of resident physicians in neurovascular ultrasound. In addition to his role as a senior physician in the Stroke Center Aarau, he began his training as a somnologist at the Klinik Barmelweid sleep laboratory in September 2017, which he completed in 2021 by obtaining the Swiss and European certificates.
Dr. Schweikert has always been passionate about the field of sleep medicine. At the same time, comprehensive treatment of stroke patients at a center hospital is also a major interest of his. Surprisingly, many patients experience a significant lack of sleep-related assessment and care after a stroke. In his role as a leading physician at the Stroke Center Zurich, he advocates for guideline-compliant diagnosis and treatment at this interface.
