Movement Disorders and Dystonia
The recommended therapy in most instances is botulinum toxin, which is administered through injections into overactive muscle groups.
The aim of the treatment is to achieve a normalization of the movement disorders and of the functional misalignment by selectively inhibiting overactive muscle groups using botulinum toxin. This can often improve functioning, alleviate pain, and facilitate caregiving.
During the consultation, a detailed medical examination is undertaken, and targeted tests are performed. The medication itself is usually injected by a physician trained in this procedure, under EMG control to ensure that the affected muscle is reached. Conditions We Treat:
- Cervical dystonia: Movement disorders, such as a twisted neck (spasmodic torticollis) or trembling head (dystonic head tremor)
- Blepharospasm: Involuntary blinking or eye twitching
- Hemifacial spasm: Involuntary muscle contractions on one side of the face due to facial nerve issues or neurovascular conflict
- Spasticity: Muscle stiffness or spasms, often occurring after a stroke or in central nervous system disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis
- Chronic migraine (approval from health insurance may be required)
- Hyperhidrosis (may not be covered by health insurance)
- Sialorrhea/Hypersalivation: excessive salivation
- Rare indications: Treatment-resistant bruxism (teeth grinding), Frey’s syndrome (gustatory sweating after removal of the parotid gland)
